Feeling blue today

Today is the first day that I've actually been home alone since Ashley went to college.  We got home from our trip on Monday but Tom was off work Tuesday & Wednesday.  Today, Thursday, he's back to work.  I slept really late which helped the day go by faster.  But I'm still feeling pretty blue.  I just miss Ashley.  It's weird to not have her here with me.

I know that eventually this will get better & I just need to be patient.  I also know that I'll probably come to love having the house to myself.  I'm sure I'll get lots of crafting done & probably become a better housekeeper too, lol.  But right now, on the very first day, I'm feeling very blue.

I've tried texting Tom at work a couple times but he hasn't answered me.  I'm assuming he's just busy but hopefully it isn't because he's tired of listening to me whine.  He works 12 hour shifts so it makes for a very long day here alone.  His mom called to check on how I was doing a little while ago.  We talked for about a half hour and I felt better afterwards.

Ashley is on a roller coaster of a ride herself.  Overall I'd say she is adjusting pretty well.  There are times where she'll call and be crying, but in general she seems to be having a great time.  She's already made some new friends too, which is really good.

All of these changes are so hard to adjust to, but I know in time we will all be so happy with the new lives that we've created!  It's just getting to that point that is a little difficult sometimes!

Bye,

Hi Lisa! Being an empty nester is always hard in the beginning, but hang in there hon, it gets better, honestly. I had a boom-a-rang kid, he was in and out for some years...it was nice at first...my little birdie coming back to the nest...but after a while, I missed my "me" time and my clean house! lol Don't be hard on yourself for feeling blue and for heavens sake, don't hesitate to call friends and family when you're feeling cruddy...you need that connection. Ashely's young...she'll do just fine! Go get yourself a mani and a pedi and feel better! (((Hugs))) Sandy

Lisa, Sandy is right, it does get better. At first, I missed the baseball games terribly. Those were really good times. Now that my boys are in their late 20's it is a different kind of fun. Just think of this as staring a new chapter for you, your husband and your daughter!

Oh Lisa I feel your pain. It is so difficult at the beginning. I cried the entire year my daughter was a senior in HS. But everyone else is right - it does get better. You'll find your own routine. You're right that you can now do all the things you wanted to do before. And, you won't have to do too much house cleaning because it will stay clean. Go do something for you and know that you and husband now have more time to yourselves. You can start doing things that you never could before. Give yourself time and keep in close touch with friends and family so you're not alone.

I am following you back from the Tuesday Get Connected blog hop.

My hubby and I have four grown children ages 32, 31, 30 and 22. I can relate to what you are going through. It is a very painful time but there is a great new life ahead of you. I enjoy my grown children! Three are married and I have five grandchildren so far.

Be patient with yourself. Don't rush your feelings. And good luck with this big transition! :)
