Thanks GS Troop 60333

A few weeks ago, Michelle, a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Granville contacted me to see if I could help her troop earn some service hours for a badge they've been working on.  She said that they had already made some binkies for Central Ohio Binky Patrol but they needed more hours.  I tried to think of ideas of other things they could do to help but I was having trouble coming up with anything.  Luckily, Michelle was full of fantastic ideas.  She is going to have them hand out flyers at the upcoming Fourth of July parade. Also, she asked if they would be able to help with delivering some items.  I was thrilled with that idea!

So yesterday morning they came to the house to pick up the items.  I had 6 big, black, leaf sized trash bags waiting for them.  They had three destinations to deliver to - Heartbeats of Licking County, The Center for New Beginnings, and New Life Pantry.  First, though, they showed me the binkies they had made.  Awesome job, girls!  Then Michelle asked me about why I started the chapter and wanted to know more about the places they would be delivering to.  I was happy to share lots of info with the girls.  They seemed interested but were quiet too. It's alright, though, because I like to talk!  It wasn't long after that and they were on their way to the first delivery.

Thanks girls, for all of your help!  And Michelle, I am very impressed with both your troop and your dedication to these girls!! I would welcome your help anytime in the future!!

Central Ohio Binky Patrol

Hi everyone,

I just got finished processing a bunch of boxes that I've received from my wonderful volunteers! You can go here - PHOTOS - Central Ohio Binky Patrol - to see all the pictures. Thanks so much to the best volunteers in the world!!

Tomorrow a volunteer and her Girl Scout Troop will be arriving at 10 in the morning to pick up some items to be delivered. The girls are working towards some badges and need some extra service hours. They've already been working on making binkies and wanted to help another way. So they are going to make deliveries tomorrow. Isn't that great!?!

Bye,

I love my Accuquilt!

The little girl next door, Ella, has been begging me to "make quilts" with her.  Unfortunately, I had to put it off some because of my Carpal Tunnel Release surgery.  But now I'm feeling lots better and we finally were able to start last week.  Because she's young, I think headed into 1st or 2nd grade next year, I really wanted to think of something relatively quick and easy that she could help with.  Ella is the type of girl who would get bored very quickly if she had to just sit and watch me make a quilt.

Then I remembered my fantastic Accuquilt GO! Cutter.  How I could've forgotten I'll never know, lol!  Anyhow, I decided to use the rag block die since that would eliminate any need for real quilting later.  The first day Ella came over I let her sort through all of my Juvenile Print tubs to pick out fabric she liked.  She needed to pick 54 fabrics so that ended up taking a couple days.  Then we started cutting.  She picked the one to cut, I lined it up on the die, and she turned the handle to operate the machine.  It worked wonderfully and she seemed to really like it.

All the blocks have been cut now and I'm beginning to sew the cross hatches on each one.  Ella is scheduled to come over again on Thursday and we'll begin sewing the blocks together.  She is so excited!  I love this project for a wide variety of reasons.  For one thing, I think it's great that she is enjoying spending time with me and still showing an interest in quilting.  Also, because of the GO! Cutter, she has been able to be very hands on with the cutting aspect of the project.  That wouldn't have been possible with a rotary cutter.  And finally, because of the rag block the quilt is moving a long very quickly.  I'd imagine we'll have a finished quilt within a few times of her coming over to sew.  That is great!!

I'll keep you all posted on the progress and will get pictures posted as soon as I can!  Have a great day!

SOS for tornado victims!!

Hi everyone,

First off, thanks so much for all the awesome help you've given to the people of Hackleburg, Alabama & Smithville, Mississippi.  I am completely overwhelmed with the response so far!  As of June 15, we have sent 137 binkies, 36 hygiene kits, 30 hats, 10 scarves/prayer shawls, 99 washcloths/towels, 5 pairs baby booties, 17 sweaters/gowns, 2 pairs slippers, a wide variety of household items and many, many boxes of clothes!!  These items have been delivered to a few different distribution agencies in both towns.  It's so great to know that they are going directly to the people that need them!  As you are all aware, it will take both towns a long time to totally recover from the devastation of the tornado.  Becky, our contact, is happy to continue receiving packages for as long as you would like to send them.  Here is her address again for your reference...

As you know, approximately a month after the tornado crippled Alabama & Mississippi another one hit Joplin, Missouri.  Many people were killed, as well as countless homes and business being destroyed.  I've been searching for a local contact and have finally found one.  Michelle has lived in Joplin for 12 years and has graciously stepped up to help.  She will begin receiving packages immediately and already has contacts to get the items delivered locally.  I'm asking all of you to please step up and help Joplin, Missouri the way you helped Hackleburg, Alabama and Smithville, Mississippi.  We can do this!  Here is Michelle's address .....

Thank you all for your help!  Remember, please send me a quick email to let me know that you are sending items out to help the tornado victims.  Be sure to include your name, city/state, list of items you are sending, and where they went (Alabama or Missouri).  If you could include some pictures that would be great since I like to put them up on the website.

Just a quick reminder that we're getting very close to our goal of 600 hats for Snowball Express.  We only need alittle over 100 more to meet the goal!!  Please keep those hats coming.  Remember, too, that we've recently adopted Comfort Scarves and are collecting scarves for them.  As always, we have the ongoing needs of binkies & baby booties for agencies here in Ohio.  Lots going on!

Finally, I just wanted to let all of you know that I have fabric & yarn available for use on Central Ohio Binky Patrol projects.  I'd be thrilled to send some out to anyone that is interested.  All I ask is that you please provide money for shipping.  Just send me an email to let me know you are interested!  Thank you again for all of your hard work and dedication.  I'm so thankful for each and every one of you!!
