I've been working on the Quilts for Kids quilt today. It's been so fun to play with the little girl fabrics!! I got the top finished today but I made a mistake. I was trying to save time so I sewed the two border strips together. I attached the side border strips to the quilt then the top & bottom ones. But then when I held it up to show my husband I realized what mistake I had made. Instead of the little green border only going around the quilt it went to the edge on the top and bottom. Here are some pictures to show you what I mean.
So, what should I do? I'm thinking I should just leave it the way it is but I don't want to do something wrong. I would hate to send it in for them to just say it isn't alright. But I'm also out of the pink fabric so even if I tried to fix it I couldn't. Man! I can't believe I didn't realize this before I started!
Also, I don't have lots of batting because I usually use flannel for my batting. I'm wondering if that would be alright to use for these quilts too. Or should I go buy some "real" batting? Maybe I'll email someone at Quilts for Kids to see what they say about both questions. If anyone out there has advice for me, please let me know though!!

If you have some of tthe green fabric left open the seams on the corners and "add" the green-so you will have four even corners :)

I'd leave it.... nothing is wrong if it's consistant. You could just say you planned it that way! LOL
It is adorable.......
I can't believe anyone would be offended
by your little error.
Happy Sewing,

Lisa,
I think your quilt is perfect. The border will make it unique. You inspired me to help out, too. So I requested a kit, too.
Lisa, I did the exact same thing once! And I sure wasn't about to change it. I think it looks great - and who is to know that it isnt a "design element" ? A little one will LOVE it!! Nice quilt and great thoughtfulness in my opinion.
Lisa, I like it just the way you did it. I have seen quilts done like this as a border design effect. It's adorabel with all the spring colors and the green just makes it pop. Nice quilt.

I think it's cute and gives it character.
Lisa, Great job with the quilt! I actually have a pattern with borders just as you have done. Some little child will fall in love with his/her blankie. Don't touch it. Karen
This is going to a child, right?? A child will not notice that there is a 'mistake', they will see it as is, and love it. They will know that it was made with love and they will love it back. I hope that helps! Caroline
I think you should leave it as you made it as it is lovely! It is balanced and very pretty.
I think your quilt is fine just the way it is. I had to contact quilts for kids and got a response right away. Go ahead and ask about the flannel for the batting.
Lily says, "Pretty Gramma". My granbby is watching over my shoulder. She's 2yrs 10mnths.
i have done a border like that on a quilt - and it was deliberate in my case! i think it looks great. as to the batting question... i think it would be best to contact the organisation that you are donating to and see what their preference is.
I've seen so many border done deliberately in that style, I'd leave it if I were you. It looks great and some child will love having it brighten their life. Maybe yours will start a new trend in the Quilts for Kids program!
Leave it. I am doing some of those quilt too. I would leave it.
You call that a mistake? I call it a design choice, and it looks great. Don't touch it.

I think your 'oops' is actually a great design variation! Also loved seeing all the blocks and fabric you've been sent recently to get your charity quilting underway - enjoy :)
I've done it this way before. I wanted something different, a change and guess what I LOVED it. Of course every quilt is different, thats the beauty of quilting, no two are alike, even if you try!!!
I say keep it as is, it's beautiful and I'm sure who ever receives it will feel the same :).
I think the results are unanimous - leave it and be happy! It looks great!!!
