Fabric Giveaway #2

Yay!!  Time for another giveaway!  As I have mentioned before, Crooked Brook is a label used by the atelier division of an art studio. They are a full service pattern making, sample making, custom embroidery, private label and apparel design studio, with small lot production capabilities. Since 1989, they have built a strong reputation of providing apparel designs, patterns, fit and production samples for many brand name catalogs and retailers, as well as wardrobe and costumes for movies, television and theater.

In addition, they design and manufacture men’s and women’s chef coats for the world’s most recognized chefs. Each one of their chef coats and aprons is made to order in the USA, and can be personalized with your choice of fabric, pockets, buttons, piping and embroidery.  They also have individual men and women for whom they make everything from custom vests, evening dresses and wedding gowns, to jeans and shirts.

As a result of all of this wonderful business, they have a great deal of fabric and other sewing supplies.  They have offered to allow me to host an awesome giveaway.  This is going to be a regular feature here on the blog so keep your eyes open in the future!  This time we are offering a box full of mixed woven organic cotton twill in these colors - gold, rust, nutmeg, eggplant, white, khaki and gray.  Here is a picture (click to make larger if you'd like!) …

Awesome right?!  So, here are the rules..

Contest ends midnight (eastern standard time) 07/11/11,
Prize will be shipped to winner within 30 days of contest end.
You must be 18 years or older to win.
US residents only, recipients must be a resident of one of the 48 contiguous states.

Now, in order to enter the giveaway, please leave a comment (with your email address!!) about how you handle your scraps of fabric.  I'm blessed to have an abundance of scraps & am always looking for ways to organize them better!  Also, for a second entry in the contest, become a follower of my blog.  Winners will be chosen at random. Please be sure to include your email address as well so we can get in contact with you!!  Have fun!

BTW: To find out how you can get a 5% discount from Crooked Brook, contact them here - info@crookedbrook.com and tell them “Lisa sent me” ; )

Wow- what lovely fabric! I have been quilting for 38 years, and not only have yardage but also scraps! If I have them designated to be part of a certain project or if cut to size, they are in a plastic shoebox, with a note showing at the end of the box so I can search easily. No need to tape the note to the container- they are so full the note stays in place. My strings are divided into gallon(s) ziplock bags and divided by color- reds and oranges, blues etc. Strings that don't fit a major catgory are all together in one tub.
Looking forward to hearing how others handle theirs!
Happy sewing!

I haven't been quilting for very long but I sure looooove fabric! Some pretty wonderful people have started me on building a stash but I don't have a lot. I keep mine in four dresser drawers by color. Hopefully someday I'll have so much that I have to buy clear tubs! Margie in Fl.

I cut 'em into 2 1/2" squares and make scrappy baby quilts!

I want to make a quilt with solids. This would help prepare the way. I cut my scraps into strips and squares and put them in clear containers. I also have a box with larger scraps and one with strings.

This box seems quite manly in color and would likely make a nice warm hug for a teen boy or young man. Barring that, it would go nicely with blue jean fabric. Jennifer Collard-- stitchster@toast2.net

How I handle my scraps-I make crumb and strip blocks. This collection would make a lovely comfort quilt for a teenager for QFK's. With all those masculine colors.

I have my scraps arranged in plastic containers in strips 3 1/2, 2 1/2, 2, and 1 1/2 inch strips, using Bonnie Hunters method. I do this with my fabric that is smaller than a fat quarter. The fleece I would use to make mittens for the Ronald McDonald house. My ASG group makes different items to donate to them.

Hi Lisa. I love scraps and, over the years, have tried all sorts of ways to organize them. My latest approach seems to be working the best for me. I put the scraps into ziplocks in color/print themes that I could use to make a scrap quilt. When I get a bag full, I'll use them to cut for a project, or if I need a few scraps I can quickly find something to work by going thru one of the bags.

I put them in a ziploc bag and go through them when I am looking for small pieces. It is not a good system at all, but I am new to this and have very few scraps!

I subscribe to the Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com's method of dealing with my scraps. Right now I am doing a lot of cutting and going through all of the scraps. I have a lot of quilts planned. These fabrics would be great for a picnic or car quilt.

I actually am not a quilter. I love to sew crafts and apparel. My scraps are added to a bag and given to a friend for her to quilt with. Easiest way to deal with those wonderful scraps. lol

We mainly quilt. Our leftover fabrics (from past garment sewing and quilts) are stored in long shallow clear plastic containers by color. A large label is put inside each on every side so no matter how turned, we can read what it says. The size of the container is dictated by the quantity of scraps. Some little accessed scraps are stored in separate small cardboard boxes - such as cutaways my late great aunt gave us, old cut up jeans, and crazy quilt type of fabrics. The hall linen closet is just for "sewing and crafting stuff". Uncut fabric purchases specifically for a quilt project are folded neatly and stored together in wall units drawers. Some are in containers, some not (we do not have that much of this so isn't hard to handle). Notions and specialty items are stored in clear plastic shoebox containers and labeled - stored in closet. Thread is stored on a rack my late father made. In progress projects are put in a pile with pieces in an open boot box (large feet = large boxes). We usually work on just a couple projects each. Oh! Both my mother and I quilt and co-mingle fabrics.
We love scraps and OPF (other people's fabrics)!

My mom is the one with all the fabric (no house to keep mine at yet!) and she has everything organized by color. Some are in plastic drawers, others are in old dressers that are labeled. This way she can find the colors she's looking for!

I have been quilting for 17 years. I organize all of my fabric by color and store them in totes. I place all of my scraps in baggies in the totes of the same color family. This allows me to find complements in a quick manner. I absolutely love the fabrics in the giveaway. I have three sons ranging in age from 14-20. They would love a quilt made from these fabrics.

I need good ideas on how to store scraps because I can not seem to toss any.

Well, I'm embarrassed to say that mine mostly go into a big bag regardless of size. I'm liking reading through the comments, there are some good suggestions here.

I keep mine in a drawer. Sometimes have to dig a bit for what I'm looking for but it's better than the grocery bag I used to use. I use my scraps for small projects and pillows.

Scraps, Scraps, Scraps. I have so many. Keeping them organized is like a full time job. Clear bins with big scraps organized by color. It is the easiest. With the smaller ones, I sew them together in delightful randomness and then one day they will become a scrap-y quilt with great fabric from projects past.

I love to use Bonnie Hunter's patterns for scrap quilts - anything goes in them - solids, prints, pretty or ugly - and it always looks good in the end. I save most of my scraps, but anything like a sliver or really tine piceces, I toss into a pillowcase for my dogs to lay on.

I'm not very good at storing my fabrics/scraps. I keep them all together in plastic bins. One day I'll have time to separate them by color.
